Dr. Chris Bahng (Foremer name: Sun Woong Bang) is a Korean born jeweller and he immigrated to Australia in 2001. After graduating from the Adelaide College for the Arts in 2005, he built up various artistic careers including artist residency at the Gray Street Workshop in Adelaide, a two-year training program as an associate of the JamFactroy Contemporary Craft, and Optus & Helpmann Academy mentorship program.

In 2016, he completed PhD (art) at the RMIT University in Melbourne Australia since he completed his Master of Fine Art. Recently, He was selected for 2017 Schmuck, International Jewellery Exhibition, Munich, Germany and the 2017 Marzee International Graduate Show, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Bahng also received a nomination in 2015’s Victorian Craft Awards and went to on to win the Jewellery Encouragement Award.

Dr. Bahng’s research contributes new works to the field of contemporary art jewellery. He creates composite artworks that referenced relics, symbols and languages from Korean, ancient Persian and Celtic cultures often in humorous ways, to reflect transcultural interactions. He developes innovative combinations of traditional jewellery techniques with 3D printing technology.
